This 6,841 square foot Granite Ridge Residence, at the base of the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, incorporates ski-in, ski-out access with European ski lodge charm. Architect Ellis Nunn and Associates blended the structure into its one-acre, densely wooded, hillside site, so that it gives the impression of having been a part of the mountain, naturally, for a century.
On the inside, this home has little in common with the mining cabins of yesteryear: It features six fireplaces, five bedrooms, a bunk room and five bathrooms, with access to exterior decks and patios from all living spaces. High ceilings and abundant natural light create the illusion that the home is even larger than it actually is.
Slifer Designs of Edwards, Colorado utilized many different finishes and fabrics in the interior design, to give the feeling that the furnishings had been collected over time, just as the home appears to have been a work in progress.
As evidenced by the end-product, all parties achieved their objective.
RAMBLIN’ ROSE
Ellis Nunn incorporated multiple rooflines to give this residence a rambling feel, and to convey an impression that the home was originally a small cabin, added onto many times over the years. The deck off the dining room features an exposed rafter, shed style roof, supported by buttressed piers with extended structural ridgepoles and purlins, creating the look and feel of a typical mountain cabin porch.
COOKING WITH TEXTURE
The design of this kitchen incorporates different types of wood grain and finish to create a rustic elegance. Western Douglas fir purlins and beams nestle against knotty pine in the ceiling, while knotty alder was used for the door and window trim. The knotty alder center island features turned corner posts and crown molding, and is finished in Antique Bisque. Absolute black granite countertops and bar chairs of red leather and cowhide complete this showcase of textures.
THE GREAT ROOM
Teton Heritage Builders handcrafted the log staircase as a focal point for the great room. It features overlapping half-log treads over log stringers, and wrought-iron pickets accented by log top and bottom rails and newels. Leather and fabric couches invite relaxation in front of the stack-stone fireplace.
